Combating Alzheimer’s and Elder Abuse in Africa: Khadi4theaged Pleads for Urgent Intervention

With Statistics (as per Clevelandclinic) showing that the black race dominates a whooping 14% of Alzheimer’s patient every year, it becomes apparent and clear that Africa as a continent is plagued by Alzheimer’s and other dementia related disease.

Unfortunately it is sickening to realize that little or no attention has been given to this alarming catastrophe as majority of these patients do not get the medical attention they require and are in most cases left to die prematurely. What becomes more alarming and is quite attention-deserving is the ill-treatment these Alzheimer’s patients gets from their fellow community men.  Let’s face it.

With our eyes gazed on Africa, Ghana in particular, we’ve realized that alzheimer’s patients are more often than not mistaken to be witches because of the symptoms they portray. Whereas, these symptoms of alzheimer’s are supposed to be welcomed by utmost medical care, our community men sees these supposed signs of alzheimer’s as an indication of witchery. These illegal accusation of witchery are therefore followed by several inhumane or ill-treatments where these alzheimer’s - suffering elderly ones are abruptly brought out for public shaming and interrogations, usually accompanied by merciless beatings and even gets killed on some certain occasions. These unwarranted cases of elderly abuse has prompted khadi4theaged to take all necessary measures and utilize every tools in its capability to ensure that we put an end to every form of elderly abuse in Africa and across the globe.

At this very juncture, Khadi4theaged is seeking for the urgent intervention of governments in Africa and across the globe to help in enforcing a remarkable war against every form of elder abuse. Likewise, we seek the help of the general pubic to join hands together with khadi4theaged to fight this cause. War against elder abuse is what we think should be of every interest to everyone, and our belief is that by joining forces together, we can get put an end to this menace.

About Khadi4TheAged

Khadi4theaged is a non-profit organization that tackles and fight against every form of elderly abuse. With the almost recurring situations of elder brutalization, maltreatment and killings in Ghana, Africa and across the world, we are plunged into taking all necessary measures aimed at ensuring that elder abuse is reduced to its barest minimum.

In the past, we’ve been actively involved in sensitizing the public  about the realities of Alzheimer and other dementia diseases in the elderly ones as a necessary requirement for putting an end to every unnecessary witchery allegations, provision of foods and other basic amenities for the elderly ones likewise an occasional visitation to the witches camp in Ghana (See pictures of our past activities below)
